Ubisoft held its 2022 Forward event, which revealed the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The company has announced that it’s working on several new Assassin’s Creed titles, including at least one that takes the series to a highly sought-after location: Feudal Japan.
He also gave several updates on his non-gaming projects, including the mysterious Assassin’s Creed Infinity. It will be an AC “hub” for fans, and may eventually be the ship of standalone multiplayer games, though we don’t know much about that yet.
On to the next adventure
The company has already announced its next major game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a new story set in Baghdad that takes the series back to its roots. The new title has garnered the most attention as it launches in 2023 and is currently available for pre-order.
Of all the new content that Ubisoft has revealed, the latest DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the only one with a release window other than Mirage. It will be released later this year and will complete the final threads of Eivor’s story. At least, it’s the last DLC since it’s called “The Last Chapter”.
In addition to the above, Ubisoft reminded everyone that there is a Netflix live-action series in development. He is working on a mobile title for Netflix’s gaming shelf, as well as a documentary about the making of the series.
So many code names
Ubisoft has announced three upcoming titles currently in development under codenames. The first game he showed is Codename Jade, the new Assassin’s Creed mobile game. According to the developers, it will be a fully-fledged open-world AC game, but optimized for mobile devices. It is set in China and players will be able to customize their Assassins.
Perhaps the most interesting new title is Codename Red. The developers didn’t mention much about it – but it didn’t need to. They said it takes place in Feudal Japan and that’s enough. Fans have been asking for a Japanese air conditioner for over a decade, and they’re finally getting their wish.
The last new title to be released was something called “Codename Hexe”. All Ubisoft showed was a short teaser trailer featuring an Assassin’s symbol made of sticks. It seems to be in a swamp. The makers have claimed that there are a few secrets hidden in the teaser, but I couldn’t make them out. I look forward to fan speculation.
