History of POTS
Ordinary old telephone services (POTS) have taken many forms since 1876, and the older generation first came to know it as a landline telephone at home. However, by the mid-2010s, many organizations had begun to take steps to reduce their dependence on POTS, which was due to the transition to VoIP, and carriers were expected to eventually shut down their extensive network of mature copper lines.
Businesses began to shift their copper line services to other forms of technology, such as DID on PRI, eFax, SIP, or IP-based technology. At the same time, they found that not all services work well with VoIP. The analog dial remains on if needed POTS lines fax, alarm, point of sale equipment, elevator, e-911, etc. (including those specified in the law).
This means that by 2021, the POTS line will no longer be supported, and many organizations will find themselves stuck in the POTS line, which is important for business voice and fax services, but see no other attractive solution.

POTS may seem easy to operate because it transmits signals over the phone, but the infrastructure needed to support communication is complex. In other words, digital lines do not require the same investment as physical lines, making them less expensive. Without a POTS change strategy, health facilities will not be able to use fax machines, high-rise office buildings with elevators, security of goods, and brick shops without fire alarms.
