IDC predicts that cloud infrastructure spending will reach $90.2 billion this year

IDC Cloud infrastructure spending is expected to exceed $90 billion in 2022.

IDC in Q1 2022 found Spending on computing and storage infrastructure products for cloud use, including dedicated and shared environments, rose 17.2 percent year-over-year to $18.3 billion.

The company’s analysts noted strong growth despite “disruptions in the supply and transportation network of some system components.”

Spending on dedicated cloud infrastructure rose 20.5 percent year-over-year to $5.9 billion in the first quarter of 2022. 47.8% of the infrastructure has been placed on site.

Spending on shared cloud infrastructure also continues to grow healthily, with $12.5 billion spent in Q1 2022, a 15.7 percent year-over-year increase. IDC expects it to surpass non-cloud infrastructure spending for the first time in 2022.

Overall, IDC predicts that cloud infrastructure spending will grow 22 percent to $90.2 billion in 2022 compared to 2021.

Over the long term, the company estimates that spending on cloud computing and storage infrastructure will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14.5 percent to reach $145.2 billion between 2021 and 2026.
